September Recap
Oct. 6th, 2024 10:42 pmSeptember was kind of a dud, media-wise. But alas, we move on.
Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell (2021, queer romance/sci-fi)
A re-read because I didn’t feel like reading anything else. I tried to take my time reading this, but somehow ended up finishing it in two days. It was just as great as the first time! Two idiots who don’t communicate in love!
Gwen and Art Are Not in Love by Lex Croucher (2023, queer romance/historical)
Gwen and Art are betrothed to each other. Unfortunately, they hate each other and are also both gay. It was okay but really had some ups and downs with pacing wise for me. There was a conversation in the middle about being allowed to love whoever you want to love and that really got to me. Otherwise, I think I am just not that into historical romances.
Everyone On This Train Is A Suspect by Benjamin Stevenson (2023, mystery/thriller)
Ernest gets invited to a writers festival on the Ghan, a famous train in Australia, and he’s trying to use that time to write his next book. He doesn’t have any ideas though, but luckily dead people start turning up on the train. This was just as quick of a read as the first one, but this time I found that the structure with the different movie genres didn’t do much for the book. The epilogue was a bit too over the top for me, though.
Murderbot #3 + #4 by Martha Wells (2018, sci-fi)
After reading these three books quickly at the beginning of the month, I totally fell into a reading slump. But murderbot always works! Murderbot is just the best. If you STILL haven’t read this series, then what are you even doing with your life!!
Kaulitz & Kaulitz (2024, documentary)
This is a Kardashians-like docu-series about the Kaulitz twins who’re part of the band Tokio Hotel. They got so popular in Germany at a young age that they had to leave to the states and now one of them is married to Heidi Klum, how fun! This was a lot more bearable than watching Kardashians and I surprisingly even had fun!
Arrival (2016, drama/mystery)
Multiple giant smooth spaceships land on earth and they do…nothing? Guess the humans have to work together to find out what they want and learn an alien language in the process. Dune is still my favourite Villeneuve, but this was sooo good. The sounds, the suspense, the reveal at the end. Damn!!
